Biography and Early Life

Born on November 19, 1995, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Kieran Kichuk spent his early years in San Diego, California, before his family returned to Canada, settling in Markham, Ontario. Raised in an athletically inclined household, Kichuk was influenced by his father, a former national-level track athlete and NCAA Division I runner. Running played a significant role in the family’s daily routine, and Kieran competed in track and cross-country at the regional and provincial levels.

Journey into Martial Arts

At the age of 13, inspired by UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, Kichuk took his first steps into martial arts, training in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. However, after six months, he shifted his full focus to grappling, leaving Muay Thai behind. He also transitioned from his high school track team to wrestling, where he competed at the Provincial level.

Jiu-Jitsu Development and Training

Kieran’s jiu-jitsu journey began under Steve Lin, who played a crucial role in his development from white to brown belt. In 2010, Lin’s academy became affiliated with Team Lloyd Irvin, providing Kichuk the opportunity to connect with Lloyd Irvin’s elite competition team, Medal Chasers.

In late 2017, Kieran started training under Fernando Zulick (Gringo), who ultimately awarded him his black belt on December 20, 2020. Under Zulick’s guidance, Kichuk has continued to refine his game, earning recognition as one of Canada’s most promising jiu-jitsu competitors.

With a strong foundation in wrestling, a dynamic submission game, and a relentless competitive drive, Kieran Kichuk has established himself as a formidable presence in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As he continues to compete at the highest levels, his dedication and passion for the sport are paving the way for an inspiring career in the world of grappling.
